The Hidden Truth
She couldn’t
believe her eyes. She must be dreaming. Yes, she was dreaming. She pinched
herself. It hurt. To her shock, she wasn’t dreaming. It was real. What she saw
was the truth. Again, she read the words on the cover. “2010 Diary”. Yes, it
was in the past. The book must be a used one. But why did he give her that
book? What did he want her to know? She opened the book.

“She’s gone now.
She told me she would go tonight. Now, it’s midnight. I can’t sleep. I can’t
stop thinking about her. I miss her.”
“Now it’s been a
month. I wonder how she’s doing. Is she OK? Does she think ever about me? I
don’t think so.”
“Half a year
gone. She never contacted me. Why? Has she forgotten it all? I hope not.”

Staring at the
beautiful handwriting, she remembered something. Yes, that was it. It was the
year she went away. Away to Singapore. She went there to work. And came back
only after a year. She never thought about it. She never knew there would be
someone waiting for her. Her heartbeat grew faster.
She felt
something strange for the first time. Some unknown pain. She read the lines
again and again. She was sure now. Dead sure that he had found someone finally.
The lines read:
“I will be loving
you so long as my heart is together with me. I will be missing you as long as
it beats.”
Never did she
know that there lines were dedicated to her. Never.

It was the first
time she wrote a personal email. An email that will make her happy again. She
talked about her current situation, her job, her family, and her plans for the
future. Most importantly, she mentioned her phone number for the first time. This
letter found the happy recipient and brought back with it a reply.
“Oh! How long have
you been here now? And how goes everything? Can I call you any time? I wanna
meet you again.”
But she noticed
it only a month after she received it.

There were so
many people. So many that it was hard to find him. She looked from here and
there, but couldn’t find him. He should be there now. At last, she gave up.
With a heart full of sorrow and disappointment, she endured through the whole
ceremony. There were meant to meet there. But they didn’t. He was away. That
was the first time she was hurt.
“Are you coming?”
“I’m not sure
yet, friend. But I will tell you if I can’t come.”
He never told
her.

Now, they had a
regular contact with each other. They sent each other messages and called each
other. They also looked for every opportunity to meet in person. But their
lives didn’t even have time to chat online. So, all they could do was sending
each other messages on Facebook and sending emails. And look at each other’s
photos online. That’s all they could do. She wrote on her timeline:
“Hope to see you
again; someday… someway…”

This was the
happiest time. Yes, it was the happiest moment in her life. They were sitting
opposite. There were dishes in front of them. Their lips were closed but their
eyes were telling. It was her birthday. And she was treating him and other
friends to lunch at a café. He was not the only friend with her, of course. But
they were in a world of their own. She received presents. She received one from
him. It was heavy and hard. She wondered what it was. Never mind. She would
find it out soon. Very soon.
“Thank you,” she
said.
“You’re welcome,”
was the reply.

He heart jumped
like a train. She opened her package and found… a book. Yes, it was a book. A
diary. Anyway, she was happy because she didn’t need to buy a new diary for
this year now. But wait… something was wrong. Awfully wrong. It was 2012 now
but the diary was for 2010.
“Why? Why did he
give me such an out-of-date book? What am I going to do with it? It’s weird.”
As she was
thinking she saw it was an old book. A book that someone had already used. But
by whom?

This led to their
relationship. They now knew each other better. They now saw each other’s heart.
She knew about him thanks to the diary. So, what about him? How did he learn
about her? She had her own ways. She said thank you to him and gave him a book.
The book of her poems. And on the first page was this poem, written in her own
handwriting:
“The Celestial
Lunch”
The touch of the
bread like clouds.
The feel of the
mayonnaise like milky way.
The look of the
ice-creams like the sun and the moon.
The taste of the
chocolate like black holes.
The look from his
eyes shining like stars.
The voice from
him drifting like a breeze.
The sound of my
heart thundering like a storm.
The pace of time
flying like a meteor.
Everything is
like heaven.
In this celestial
lunch.

The pen is mightier than the sword. The power of literature can make many difficult things easy. Now, they are reunited. Reunited after years of misunderstandings. Reunited after years of secrets. Reunited after years of sufferings. If God can make everything come true, there is only one wish on my mind. I’d like to see them as man and wife.
